Getting Started with KeyMaker

This page covers who can request KeyMaker access, how to request it, and how sponsors provision access for their teams.

  • Faculty and staff with funding can request access as a sponsor, using a funding source they control.
  • Students can request access through a sponsor — by joining the team of a faculty or staff member who sponsors them.

KeyMaker is self-funded: sponsors bring their own funding source to cover usage costs.

In campusGenAI:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top corner.
  2. Select KeyMaker.
  3. Choose the tab that fits your situation:
    • Trial Key — to try out API access.
    • Sponsor Access — if you have funding you’d like to use, or you’re part of a sponsor’s team.

Under Sponsor Access, there are two paths depending on who you are:

  • Join your sponsor’s team — choose this if you’re being added to an existing sponsor’s team (for example, a student working under a PI).
  • Register as a team Sponsor — choose this if you have funding you’d like to use.

Fill out the information for your path accordingly and submit.

Timing varies depending on verification. After you submit a request:

  1. Your billing admin verifies that the speedtype is valid. Usage is then manually billed to that department/speedtype accordingly.
  2. Your platform admin approves key creation.

Once approved, you’re ready to retrieve your key.

Your API key is shown in the KeyMaker portal in campusGenAI — no key is emailed. Return to your profile picture → KeyMaker to find it.

Once a sponsor request is approved, sponsors manage their team through the KeyMaker portal in campusGenAI:

  • Add or remove team members
  • Allocate access and usage across team members

Team members who chose Join your sponsor’s team appear for the sponsor to approve and provision.

Your interface may look slightly different depending on your institution’s deployment.
